Shout HITSTER as you listen to the greatest hits of all time!
Download the app QR Music Game โ Party Trivia from the App Store. It's free!
The app streams songs via Spotify โ you'll need a Premium account to play.
The physical game: board, QR cards, disco ball spinner, and scorecards.
๐ค Decide on teams or individual play. Mix ages and music tastes for a better game!
๐ฏ Choose your difficulty. Side A of the board = Beginners ยท Side B = Experts
๐ชฉ Place the disco ball spinner in the centre of the board.
๐ Shuffle the cards and place a face-down stack (date side down!) on each of the 5 category spots on the board.
๐ Hand out scorecards and pens to everyone.
๐ฑ Open QR Music Game, connect to Spotify Premium, and you're ready!
On your turn, spin the disco ball โ wherever it points is the category you'll play this round.
Pick the top card from that category โ don't peek at the date! Scan the QR code in the app and listen from the beginning. Press the disco ball to start the 25-second timer lights.
Everyone writes their answer on their scorecard before the red light flashes. No shouting โ write first!
Flip the card to reveal the answer. Check your answer โ correct = 1 point, mark a cross in that category's colour on your scorecard. Play continues clockwise.
Is the artist a solo act or a group? Duets and features count as group.
Simple โ Yes or No.
Guess the release year โ you score if you're within 4 years.
โญ Exact year = delete one cross from an opponent's scorecardWhich decade? e.g. "1960s" or "Eighties".
Tighter! Score if you're within 2 years of the release year.
โญ Exact year = delete one cross from an opponent's scorecardWrite the song title. Other players judge if "close enough" counts โ majority rules.
Only scores if you're spot on. The date = release year, or the year the original artist first performed it live.
Name the artist correctly. For collabs, naming the main solo artist counts.
Same as the A-side โ e.g. "Seventies" or "2000s".
Score if you're within 3 years of the release year. Harder than 4, easier than 2!
Lines go any direction โ horizontal, vertical, or diagonal. Each scorecard has a different layout, so play to your strengths.
Team up freely โ by age, musical era, or random draw. More varied teams = more balanced (and more fun) odds.
Tie-breaker: Play continues between tied players โ first correct answer wins the whole game.
These cards work with other HITSTER games too โ mix and match to keep things fresh.
DJs and card-scanners: don't wear a smartwatch or glance at the iPhone's Dynamic Island while playing โ it may flash the song title or artist on screen and spoil the fun for everyone.
